Backup by Jim Butcher

Title: Backup
Author: Jim Butcher
Series: This is not a Dresden Files book, but it's sort of a split-off from that, featuring Thomas Raith.
Genre: Contemporary fantasy.
Pages: 70
Copyright Date: 2008
Cover: A monster with big teeth snarling behind a guy who looks slightly Asian. The cover is drawn and there are other black and white illustrations throughout the book.
First Line: "Let's get something clear right up front. I'm not Harry Dresden."
Best part: I enjoyed seeing the series from the perspective of a different character.
Worst part: Too short!
Grade: B
Recommended for: Fans of the Dresden Files series. It would be a little weird if you didn't know that series.

Thomas Raith, Harry Dresden's half-brother, lives in the shadows. How can you do otherwise as a vampire? Especially a vampire who does not agree with the party line, that of treating humans as kine? He balances many desires and enemies - the demon within himself, the desire to make an honest living, his love for his brother, his family of monsters... and another agenda, which has been hidden up until now and must stay hidden in the future.

This novella is a quick hit, not a serious fix, for those who like Dresden. I enjoyed it a lot. B.
