Invasion by Mercedes Lackey et al

Title: Invasion
Author: Mercedes Lackey with Steve Libbey, Cody Martin, and Dennis Lee (I don't think I've heard of any of the collaborators)
Series: Secret World Chronicle, Book One
Genre: Superhero, alternate history, game-themed.
Setting: A superhero-enhanced version of the modern world. Much of the story takes place in or near Atlanta, Georgia.
Reason for Reading: If Mercedes Lackey wrote a phone book, I would read at least the first fifty pages just to see how it was.
Finished In: Days
Pages: 405
Copyright Date: 2011
Cover: Looks like a giant robot eagle in flames with a gun coming out of its mouth.
First line: "The blue-skinned, blue-haired woman known by the callsign 'Belladonna Blue' leaned into the oval hatch of the captain's cubby."
Themes: Belonging, trauma, Nazis, superheros, organized crime.
Best part: I really liked that the concept included "all the really great ones are already lost." The first line of superheros went down early, the rest of the series will be with who's left.
Worst part: Too many authors, too many characters, too many story lines. Hard to follow.
Imaginary Theme Song: The Danny Elfman Batman theme - cool, but a little cliched.
Grade: C+.
Recommended for: Fans of both superheros and Lackey. Who, I must add in all fairness, will already be reading this book.
Related Reads: Hero by Perry Moore. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore. Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. Sadly, they are all better than this book.
