happy news

So, a little while ago I mentioned cryptically* that I thought I had figured out a way to pay for the gym. I now have permission to describe this way, which is seeming more and more likely as time passes.

The fabulous trouble4hire and teratomarty were discussing MA Question Three, on whether to ban greyhound racing. They decided that, since they were both voting in favor of the ban, if it passed they should seriously consider adopting a rescued greyhound. The measure did pass, probably we all know that. Several years ago, we had discussed the idea that if they did get a dog, I would likely be the daytime dogwalker, whilst they are at their NTF jobs, assuming the dog and I like each other.

This plan went from "sometime" to "2010" to "this spring," and is looking more and more definite. We discussed compensation and they said that in lieu of paying me, they'd be happy to pick up my gym membership. YAY! YAY YAY YAY!

So, at this point they are planning to visit a greyhound rescue place and then bring home a dog. I will walk the dog four days a week for most of the year. Greyhounds don't need much excercise, oddly enough, so the walks may not be very long. We are also discussing the possibility of the dog getting trained as a therapy dog, and if that happens I would take the dog volunteering as well.

I have been doing some research on greyhounds, and they seem to be very sweet and reclusive. They can sleep up to 18 hours a day, which makes them good "apartment dogs." They require high fences around your backyard, and shade in your backyard, both of which trouble4hire and teratomarty possess... all in all, I think it's going to work out rather nicely.

Not everything has been settled yet but I'm feeling very hopeful and excited.

*I know, I'm almost never cryptic in my LJ. Sorry guys.
