Northern Lights by Nora Roberts

Title: Northern Lights
Author: Nora Roberts
Genre: Romance
Setting: The small town of Lunacy, Alaska.
Reason for Reading: It was a recommendation from a new friend who does not, afaik, have an LJ.
Finished In: Days
Pages: 656 including a preview for Blue Smoke.
Copyright Date: 2005
Cover: This cover is driving me crazy, guys. It shows a little red plane against a snow-covered mountain. I believe the same image was used as the basis for this book and also the cover of the Bill Staines record Redbird's Wing, which has a couple of songs about Alaska on it. I thought I remember Staines saying in concert that that cover was based on a picture from A Day in the Life of America, that he had gone flying with the same guy who that picture had been taken of and written that song about it. However, I remember precious little else about this and have had no luck in finding the photo I think they're both referencing. Does anybody know what I'm talking about here? GIS on "red plane photo alaska" and similar search terms yields nothing.
First line: "Landed on Sun Glacier about noon."
Epigraph: "Finish, good lady; the bright day is done/ And we are for the dark." - William Shakespeare
Themes: Small town, violent weather, absent fathers, police officers, small planes.
Best part: Actually it was pretty un-put-downable.
Worst part: I was able to figure out pretty easily who the bad guy was based on how other romance novel plots work.
Imaginary Theme Song: Redbird's Wing by Bill Staines
Grade: B+
Recommended for: People who think the romance genre is not for them.
