The Servants by Michael Marshall Smith

Title: The Servants
Author: Michael Marshall Smith
Genre: I'd say YA fantasy.
Setting: A small seaside town in Britain.
Reason for Reading: It got really good reviews and I was curious.
Finished In: Hours

Copyright Date: 2007
Cover: All yellow, with windows and a seabird.
First line: "Mark sat on a ridge of pebbles and watched as the colours over the sea started to turn."
Themes: Illness, magic, servants, the ocean.
Best part: The ending of this book was so beautiful.
Worst part: It's hard to see a protagonist acting like a jerk.
Imaginary Theme Song: Theme song to Gosford Park.

Recommended for: Fans of YA fantasy should definitely give it a look. Also those who enjoy stories of British servants, even if you haven't tried YA fantasy before.
